Mary Jo Lane is the Artistic Director and Owner of That Dance Place Performing Arts Center, LLC.  A respected teacher and award-winning choreographer for more than 35 years, Mary Jo is devoted to the students at the studio.  In addition to working with her students, she also has done choreography work for several churches and ministry groups around the area.  Mary Jo studied and continues to study ballet, jazz, lyrical, baton, gymnastics, tap and hip hop.

Michelle English has been teaching ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, acrobatic (gymnastics) and baton at That Dance Place for over 27 years.  Her training includes study in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, gymnastics, baton and hip hop.  Michelle has attended many conventions over the years including DMI, Dancer's Spotlight and Turn It Around Tour.  When Michelle was a student at TDP, she won several top awards at Starpower National Talent Competition.  Many of her students have also won top awards at competitions. 

Michelle is a member of the Aerobics & Fitness Assoc. of America, Zumba, LesMils Body Pump and MSROM certified.  She also has her CPR/AED certificate.  She has an Associate of Science Degree from Richard Bland College and attended VCU.

Candayce Marshall  has had over 25 years of dance training and has attended numerous dance competitions and conventions.  In the past Candayce has taught many different types of dance at That Dance Place.  Currently she is the Adult Tap Teacher.  She brings the intricacies of tap to those who have no experience; as well as, those who are returning to dance after a break.  As a student, she was on the That Dance Place 2004 National Competition Team that earned a National Overall Title.  She has a Marketing Degree from VCU.

Megan McNamara is a Assistant Director/Instructor.  Megan has been a part of That Dance Place over 20 years.  She began as a student at 4 years of age.  She became an instructor at 14 years old and later an Assistant Director.  Megan has her Masters in Teaching and teaches 4th grade at Barack Obama Elementary School in Richmond.  Megan has been involved with dance competitions/conventions, outside performances and charity events with That Dance Place.  She was also on the Richard Bland dance team for 2 years and the Captain for one year.  Her choreography is fresh and innovative.

​Her love for children, her passion for dance and her understanding of how to bring out the best in each child have made her a blessing to That Dance Place.

Rachel Franco is currently at VCU working on her Master's Degree and will be sharing her skills with us as an Instructor for a few classes.  Rachel began dancing at That Dance Place when she was 2 years old.  She also was in the Dance Specialty Center at Thomas Dale High School.  Her attention to detail in her choreography sets her apart.  Rachel recently competed in a duet in Richmond and won a Superior Rating.  She was also nominated for Best Choreography for that same dance.

​Her upbeat style of teaching will be a wonderful addition to our dance school.

Olivia Johnson is currently in the Theater Department at Appomattox Regional Governors School.  Her maturity in working with children is far beyond her years.  She has a desire to see each of her students succeed and improve.  This is her second year as an Assistant Instructor with us.  Prior to that Olivia was in our TNT (Teachers In Training) program.  As a student at That Dance Place she has performed at special events and competition.

Julia Malady is beginning her first year with us as an Assistant Teacher.  Last year she was in the TNT (Teachers In Training) program working with the Creative Movement class and Acrobatics (Gymnastics) class.   Julia's patience with our students is one of her best qualities as an instructor.  She has a strong technical skill as a dancer and can translate corrections for younger students to understand and apply.  We are blessed to have her on board this year.  Julia has also performed in many special events and competitions with the dance school.
